Nigel Pogmore was brought up in Yorkshire and has always had a severe case of wanderlust. His first adventure was a motorcycling touring expedition around England; he then set his sights further field.
His first solo international jaunt was from (1976) York to Istanbul, covering eight thousand kilometer return trip in just three weeks (on his 750 Honda). His fate was then sealed, life was never to be the same, he gave up his job (as a bus driver) in York and started training with a London based long haul overland company, Encounter Overland, who specialise in Asia, Africa, and South America expeditions. Nigel first visited Nepal in 1979 as an expedition driver. The journey started in London and concluded in Kathmandu three months later having driven twenty thousand kilometres (in an eight ton ex British army four wheel drive truck,) bringing with him twenty other passengers from many parts of the World. It was during this time that Nigel’s love of Nepal and its people took hold. Nigel has moved around the World to such places as Egypt, Canada, UAE, USA and Australia. In 1988 whilst in Australia he became a commercial Hot Air balloons Pilot. Later this newfound profession brought him back to Nepal taking up the position as Chief Pilot for Nepal’s only Hot Air Balloon Company. From 1996 to 2000 Nigel conducted over three hundred balloon flights in the Kathmandu valley. Whilst all these flights were conducted safely, he has collect many hilarious anecdotes that are guaranteed to entertain you. 2000 –2003 Having met his Nepali wife Nita, Nigel headed back to Australia where he was to fly one of the worlds largest special shape balloons, a ten-story-tall Freddo, the frog balloon for Cadbury chocolates. During this time Nigel conducted 311 flight as he toured down-under with his froggy friend, that involved hundred and seventy thousand kilometre of touring in this vast land. With Nigel’s extensive adventure experiences it is only natural that he developed a great interest for Photography. We at Escape 2 Nepal are delighted that Nepal is his favourite photographic location. Nigel has all the necessary credentials to get you in front of subject that most would otherwise miss out on. |
